Once known for filming early Western movies, Agoura and Agoura Hills grew during the 1960s and 1970s with a rapid increase in housing developments and local services.
Real Estate: Much of the real estate in the area is single family homes for sale in developments and communities. Homes are often multi-level and on large lots with ample backyards. Many homes have pools and the Mediterranean style is very popular here. There are also some town houses and condos available.
Community Life: Known as the gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Agoura features great hiking and outdoor recreation. Agoura Hills also has a long musical tradition and is home to The Canyon Club, a concert venue that hosts many popular national and regional touring acts. The area is also famous for the Great Race, which has a 30-year tradition in the area.
Education: Agoura Hills is served by the Los Virgines School District which includes Sumac Elementary, Willow Elementary, Yerba Buena Elementary, Mariposa School of Global Education, Lindero Canyon Middle School, and Agoura High School.
Transportation: Agoura Hills is served by the 101 Freeway. The City of Agoura Hills offers Dial-A-Ride services. The area is also served by Metropolitan Bus Line 161 and has local Park and Ride lots with access to two Commuter Express Routes. A Summer Beach Bus runs June 15 to August 15 and offers service to Malibu.
Local Attractions: Paramount Ranch is a national park attraction with hiking trails and an Old Western town which was used in the filming of various Hollywood movies and television shows. The Reyes Adobe Historical Site represents the first home built in Agoura Hills back in 1850. The M*A*S*H set in Malibu Creek Park is the former location of the filming of the popular television show.
